Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation launches new campaign video in support of Stevenson Memorial Hospital’s Redevelopment

[New Tecumseth, ON – July 7, 2021] – The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) has just released a new video highlighting the importance of Stevenson Memorial Hospital’s (SMH) Redevelopment. This video was made possible thanks to donors and SMH staff who shared what a Redeveloped Hospital would mean for our community.

In the video, Campaign Chair, Sylvia Biffis shares that nearly 60% of the $43 Million Because of you, we can Capital Campaign goal has been raised. This is the largest and most significant campaign in the Foundation’s history. The current hospital was built in 1964 to serve 7,000 people a year in the Emergency Department, but fast forward to today and the same Emergency Department now serves close to 40,000 people annually.

Donors like Bob and Pat Jackson encourage others to make their own commitment to this historic campaign, which will improve health care for South Simcoe.

“We can’t visualize not having the hospital here, it’s so important. We were both born in the old hospital and our daughter and our two grandsons were both born in the hospital. You don’t want to have to go to Barrie or Newmarket, and in some cases, it’s life and death,” says Bob and Pat Jackson.

This kind of support is critical as the demand on Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) due to expanding populations, as well as the additional needs of the pandemic, have put immense pressure on this essential resource. Viewers got a behind-the-scenes look at the Emergency Department with a tour from Shaista Pabla, Clinical Coordinator.

“Our staff provide compassionate, high quality patient care around the clock and are continuously challenged in their space. They are working in a department built in 1964 that presents many obstacles in providing the exceptional level of patient care that Stevenson Memorial Hospital is known for,” said Shaista.

The time is now to support your community hospital and help make a revitalization a reality. “This is about a revitalized and expanded hospital for everyone in our community and I can’t think of anything more important,” says Jody Levac, President & CEO, SMH.
